update and current status

Current status:

· In and out of consciousness

· Waiting for vitals to stabilize to allow for an epidural to control pain directly versus systemically

· Bleeding in her brain has subsided

· Bleeding in her lungs has subsided (just had additional x-rays this morning to further confirm)

· Bleeding in her abdomen (thoracic cavity) has subsided

· Her punctured lung is mending, but very badly bruised and contains too much fluid

· 6 or more of her ribs on her left side are broken, some in multiple places

· Shattered spleen has been taken care of via surgery and bleeding has subsided

The trauma surgeon’s major concerns at this stage are: 1) pneumonia in the badly damaged lung, and 2) risk of continued bleeding internally in the abdomen.
